Corporate bosses hit the track as maternal health run is launched

Corporate leaders swapped boardrooms for sportswear as Corporate Games Uganda hosted its latest CEO outing—using the moment to launch a nationwide run aimed at saving mothers.

The high-energy event, held at Jeph International University grounds in Butabika  brought together companies from across the country for a mix of sport, networking and wellness activities.

But the real highlight was the unveiling of the Corporate Run, a new non-profit initiative targeting maternal healthcare under the theme “Run for Expectant Mothers.”

The run, scheduled for October 11, 2026 in partnership with the Ministry of Health, aims to raise funds to support expectant mothers in underserved communities.

Organisers say proceeds will go towards buying mama kits—each costing about Shs 30,000—and improving maternity wards at selected Health Centre IIIs.

Chief guest Josephine Okui Ossiya hailed the initiative, saying such platforms help employees recharge while promoting healthy lifestyles.

“We work hard, we also play hard. It’s important for teams to step away from work, relax and embrace exercise,” she said.

She also applauded the introduction of new activities such as archery, which added excitement to the outing.

“It’s very exciting when you hit the target,” she said.

The chairman of Corporate Games Uganda, Ian Rumanyika, described the run as more than just a sporting event.

“This is a call to action. Every kilometre covered brings us closer to a Uganda where no mother loses her life while giving life,” he said.

Rumanyika urged companies to turn up in large numbers—not just for competition, but to support a life-saving cause.

The CEO outing, now in its fourth edition this season, continues to grow as a platform for promoting workplace wellness, teamwork and cross-industry connections.

Beyond the fun and games, organisers are increasingly using the platform to tackle real social issues—this time focusing on maternal health, one of Uganda’s persistent challenges.

With momentum building ahead of October, all eyes are now on how many corporates will answer the call—and how many lives could ultimately be impacted.
