By Breaking Belize News Staff: Pedro Baki, a resident of Caye Caulker, has pleaded not guilty in the High Court to a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old minor.
Baki is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with the child on three occasions between February 3, 2025, and April 24, 2025, in the village of Caye Caulker.
Appearing unrepresented before Justice Nigel Pilgrim, Baki stated that while he attempted to retain a prominent defense attorney, he was unable to pay the full legal fees and will need to secure alternative representation. Given the severity of the charge and potential prison sentence, Justice Pilgrim strongly advised Baki to obtain legal counsel prior to trial.
The case was originally assigned to Justice Derick Sylvester, but was reassigned to Justice Pilgrim following changes in judicial criminal dockets.
Crown Counsel Maria Santana-Nembhard represents the prosecution in the matter. Justice Pilgrim ordered Case Management Conference (CNC) forms to be filed on or before September 28, 2026. Baki is scheduled to return to court on October 26, 2026, for his Preliminary Inquiry.
