Calls for urgent assistance with repatriation of Malawian nationals
Humanitarian organisation appeals for assistance to get undocumented Malawian Nationals home
A humanitarian organisation, Africa Spear NPC, has appealed to authorities to urgently intervene in providing transport for the repatriation of stranded migrants.
The Malawian nationals are currently sheltering on the premises of a church in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal.
The organisation says the site is currently accommodating more than 120 people, including women and children.
The number is expected to increase as more Malawian nationals continue to arrive.
The organisation’s Secretary-General Sonto Ntombela says, “We are currently in need of assistance for meals, blankets, pampers, sanitary pads, servicing of toilets and water. Above all, we request good Samaritans to assist with transport. We have been in contact with the Malawian embassy, who has indicated that they are currently busy arranging transport for those that are stationed in Durban.” – Reporting by Samke Mtshali
Humanitarian organisation, Gift of the Givers, says it will assist as many stranded Malawian nationals as possible, provided funding and resources are available. The organisation has already arranged two buses to transport women and children directly to Malawi.… pic.twitter.com/o5LLdw78MJ
