Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) will celebrate its milestone 16th anniversary from 17–23 August 2026 with its most ambitious programme to date.

Under the theme “Design Beyond Borders”, the event will debut at the iconic 8 Northumberland Avenue, launch the new “Shop The Runway” retail platform, and introduce an expanded programme of industry talks, DJ workshops and creative collaborations, including a partnership with the British Council’s Creative DNA programme.

Since its inception in 2011, AFWL has showcased more than 3,000 designers and creatives from Africa and the diaspora, cementing its position as one of the world’s leading catwalk and exhibition platforms for African fashion. AFWL2026 builds on that legacy by creating new opportunities for designers, entrepreneurs and creatives to connect with consumers, industry leaders and international markets.

DJ Cuppy

AFWL2026 begins on Monday, 17 August, with a special DJ Workshop led by internationally-acclaimed Nigerian recording artist Florence Otedola, professionally known as DJ Cuppy. Designed to inspire and nurture the next generation of music talent, the workshop will provide mentorship, industry insights and practical guidance from one of Africa’s most recognisable cultural figures.

The same day will also see the official AFWL2026 Press Conference at Tales House, a permanent destination for luxury African fashion located in the heart of London’s West End.

From Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 August, attention turns to the British Council Headquarters in Stratford, where AFWL and the British Council will host a three-day programme of creative industry seminars, panel discussions, designer surgeries and networking sessions.

Bringing together designers, educators, cultural institutions, industry professionals and entrepreneurs from across Africa and the United Kingdom, the programme will explore the future of fashion business, sustainability, AI and design innovation, international collaboration and creative entrepreneurship. The British Council Creative DNA cohort, representing Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Nigeria, will also join the programme. The celebrations culminate on Saturday 22 August, as Africa Fashion Week London finds a home at the iconic 8 Northumberland Avenue for a day of catwalks, shopping and entertainment.

Olori Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi

A major addition to AFWL2026 arrives on Sunday, 23 August, with the launch of ‘Shop The Runway’. For the first time, visitors, buyers, stylists and media will have the opportunity to experience catwalk collections up close and purchase directly from participating designers. The new showroom concept extends the runway experience beyond the shows themselves, creating meaningful opportunities for designers to connect creativity with commerce.

“For sixteen years, Africa Fashion Week London has been about creating opportunities and celebrating African excellence. This year’s programme reflects our ambition to go even further by bringing together fashion, music, education and commerce in one extraordinary week. We are creating spaces where designers can learn, connect, showcase their work, and ultimately build sustainable businesses while sharing African creativity with the world”, said Olori Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, founder and CEO of AFWL.

Founded in 2011, Africa Fashion Week London has become one of Europe’s largest and most influential platforms for African and African-inspired fashion. Having showcased more than 3,000 designers and creatives, AFWL continues to connect talent with buyers, media, educators and global audiences while celebrating the richness, diversity and innovation of African creativity.
