Busta Rhymes Honors J Dilla Legacy With “Dillagence 2” Album Announcement

Busta Rhymes is bringing back one of Hip-Hop’s most sacred creative partnerships with a full album built entirely on unreleased production from the late J Dilla.

Busta announced that Dillagence 2 arrives August 25, 2026, marking the first major project to showcase the vault of beats Dilla entrusted to him before his death in 2006.

Busta shared the news in an intimate Instagram video featuring Ma Dukes, J Dilla’s mother, nodding along to one of the album’s tracks during a March listening session, capturing the emotional weight of what’s to come.

“DILLAGENCE 2, THE DRAGON x J DILLA. NEW ALBUM. HISTORY IS ABOUT TO MADE IN A NEW WAY,” Busta wrote in the caption, signaling this isn’t just another posthumous project.

The album serves as a sequel to 2007’s Dillagence, the DJ Mick Boogie-hosted mixtape that first paired Busta’s rapid-fire delivery with Dilla’s signature production style.

Back in February, Busta hosted a private listening session in New York City where early snippets hinted at a collaboration with Lil Wayne, adding another layer of anticipation to the release.

The creative bond between these two artists runs deep. Busta and J Dilla collaborated on classics like “Still Shining,” “Turn Me Up Some,” and “Show Me What You Got” across six of Busta’s first seven solo albums.

Dilla’s influence shaped some of the most memorable moments in Busta’s catalog, and Busta revealed in a 2020 GQ interview that Dilla left him with over 300 unreleased beats before his passing.

“I’ve always tried to represent and uphold the legacy of the late, great J Dilla,” Busta said. “I think Dilla is probably top three best producers in the world.”

J Dilla’s impact on Hip-Hop production remains unmatched.

His ability to craft lengthy, melodic loops layered with breakbeats and vocal samples elevated instrumental Hip-Hop into new, more musically complex territory.

He produced for A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, The Roots, The Pharcyde, and Common, whose track “The Light” stands as one of his most celebrated works.

As a founding member of Slum Village, Dilla helped define the sound of Detroit Hip-Hop while influencing producers worldwide.

On February 10, 2006, the Hip-Hop world lost Dilla at just 32 years old.

He died from cardiac arrest resulting from complications with lupus and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, a rare blood disease he’d battled for three years.

Remarkably, he released his final album Donuts just three days before his death, cementing his legacy as an artist who never stopped creating even as his health deteriorated.

Now, with Dillagence 2, Busta ensures that Dilla’s artistry continues to inspire and move listeners through the unreleased material that represents the final chapter of their collaboration.
