Young Belizeans shape vision for Belize at 50 at 5th Creative Youth Ideas Summit

By Zoila Palma:  Young Belizeans gathered on September 8, 2026, for the 5th Belize Creative Youth Ideas Summit, an initiative that provided a platform for youth to share ideas, exchange perspectives and envision the Belize they want to help build.

The Summit brought together participants to engage in discussions across six key areas: Education and Training Skills; Health and Wellness; Sports and Recreation; Science and Technology; Climate Change and Sustainable Development; and Culture and Creative Industries.

The discussions encouraged young people to examine challenges facing the country while proposing creative ideas for its future.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the National Celebrations Commission, emphasized the importance of the Summit as a space for young Belizeans to think boldly about the country’s future and recognize their role in nation building.

At the heart of the Summit was the question: “What do you want Belize to look like at 50, and what bold idea can we start today to help build that Belize?”

 Participants explored the question through their respective themes, presenting their aspirations and ideas for the Belize they want to see in the years ahead.

Their contributions will be compiled into an Outcomes Document, which will later be formally presented to the Government of Belize.
