“Why not completely stop it?” Reader questions Carnival after fatal

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Breaking Belize News reader has written in questioning whether Carnival should continue at all, following another weekend marked by violence.

The message came in after the fatal stabbing on Pickstock Street in the early hours of Carnival morning, which claimed the life of 45 year old Clive Hendricks.

“If every year carnival fights happen, shooting happen, stabbing, why not completely STOP it,” the reader wrote.

“I’ve lived in Belize all my life and never been to a carnival. Why? Too much negativity and stray way lick, people get hurt innocently why and what reason? It has to stop.”

The view is not an isolated one. Carnival draws thousands of Belizeans into the streets of Belize City each September and remains one of the most anticipated events on the national calendar, but incidents around it have become a recurring feature of the coverage.

Others argue the celebration itself is not the problem, and that shutting it down would punish the overwhelming majority who come out peacefully.

Where do you stand? Should Carnival continue, or has it run its course? Comment below.
