Vibronics Meets Genadub: Edge Of The Mountain

What happens when one of the UK’s leading dub producers joins forces with a sound system project from northern Argentina? Edge Of The Mountain is the first result of the collaboration between Vibronics and GenaDub, connecting the UK and the Argentine reggae scene through one shared musical project.

The project started with four original riddims created by Vibronics in the UK. These foundations were then taken to Argentina, where local musicians recorded their parts at Eko Estudios in Vaqueros, Salta, with Diego Mamani Di Gusseppe behind the controls.

There was plenty of musical experience in the room. Canai Ushen Estrella played guitar, Sebastián Soraire laid down the bass and GenaDub handled the drums. Emibless added percussion and tambourine, while Minu Sartor brought flute and Hugo Lobo added trumpet.

Then came the voices. Nia Songbird, Mariana Baraj and Sol Margueliche each took the same musical foundation in a different direction. Their individual styles give the riddim three distinct personalities, while the connection between the recordings remains clear.

After the Salta sessions, the tracks crossed the Atlantic once again. Back in the UK, Vibronics took care of the mixing, dub treatment and mastering, bringing the Argentine recordings into his own sonic world.

But there’s a bigger idea behind Edge Of The Mountain. The project is about creating music across borders while keeping the character of both places intact. Argentina and the UK have a history that includes political tensions and conflict, but here the focus is on something very different: musicians meeting, working together and creating something new.

That’s where reggae and dub can be powerful. A riddim doesn’t need a passport. It can travel from Salta to the UK, pick up new voices and musicians along the way, and come back as something none of the participants could have created alone.

And this is just the first chapter. Four original Vibronics riddims were developed during the process, with the intention of turning them into different releases and further collaborations. Edge Of The Mountain therefore isn’t simply a one-off meeting between two scenes. It’s the starting point for a much bigger musical exchange.
