SIB report: Beef, pork and chicken record prices rise in June

By Zoila Palma:  The cost of several meat and poultry products increased between June 2025 and June 2026, according to price data included in the Statistical Institute of Belize’s (SIB) latest Consumer Price Index report.

The figures highlight the continued rise in food costs as Belize recorded an overall inflation rate of 4.6 percent in June.

Ground beef recorded the largest increase among the listed products, rising 10.6 percent from $7.41 per pound in June 2025 to $8.20 in June 2026. Whole fish followed closely, climbing 9.6 percent from $9.21 to $10.10 per pound, while turkey increased by 9.1 percent, from $5.85 to $6.38 per pound.

Other products also saw notable price increases. Stew pork rose 6.5 percent from $8.17 to $8.70 per pound, while chicken legs increased 5.9 percent from $3.60 to $3.81.

Beef steak went up 4 percent, from $10.34 to $10.75 per pound, while chicken cuts increased 3.7 percent, from $3.68 to $3.82.

Whole chicken rose 2.8 percent, from $3.23 to $3.32 per pound, while chicken wings increased 2.5 percent, from $6.89 to $7.07.

Chicken breast was the only product listed to record a slight decline, falling 0.2 percent from $4.85 to $4.84 per pound.
