By Breaking Belize News Staff: Sherman Rodney, the Belize City man accused of robbing a 22-year-old woman at knifepoint, has been released on bail after spending more than four months on remand at the Belize Central Prison.
Rodney appeared before the Chief Magistrate in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, August 5, where there were no further objections to bail being granted.
He was offered bail in the sum of $8,000, with two sureties of $4,000 each, which he was able to meet later that day.
Several conditions were attached to his bail. Rodney must report to a police station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, remain at least 100 feet away from the complainant and other prosecution witnesses, and may not apply for travel documents or leave Belize without the court’s permission.
Rodney, an LIU worker, was first arraigned on March 31, 2026, on one count of robbery and had remained on remand since then.
Police allege that on March 29, a 22-year-old office assistant was walking along Antelope Street Extension when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her and threatened her with a knife before demanding her belongings.
The woman allegedly handed over a purse containing cash, an iPhone, jewellery and other items with a total reported value of approximately $3,325. Police say the robber then kicked her from behind, causing her to fall before fleeing.
Investigators say surveillance footage and additional video obtained through the Police Fusion Center assisted them in tracing a suspect to a residence on Antelope Street Extension.
Police later searched the residence, where Rodney was found, and reported recovering a wristwatch, gold bracelet and other items allegedly belonging to the victim.
Rodney has maintained a not-guilty plea to the robbery charge.
His next court appearance is scheduled for September 11, 2026, when the matter is also expected to proceed to a Case Management Conference.
