By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a double-fatal road traffic accident that claimed the lives of two people on the Philip Goldson Highway on Wednesday.
The crash occurred at about 11:45 a.m. on September 2 at Mile 5 and involved a BMW and a Lifan motorcycle.
According to police, 22-year-old Pedro Jorge Espat was traveling from the direction of Belize City in the BMW, while 32-year-old Joseph Alexander Williams and 42-year-old Sherlene Rodriguez were traveling in the opposite direction on the motorcycle when the vehicles collided.
The impact caused extensive damage and left both Williams and Rodriguez injured. They were rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where Williams was pronounced dead on arrival.
Rodriguez was admitted for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries.
Police say Espat provided a urine sample for alcohol testing and was served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution as investigations into the fatal crash continue.
