No licence, no insurance: San Pedro golf cart driver gets two charges

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 49 year old self employed man of the San Mateo Area has been charged with two traffic offences following a vehicle checkpoint in San Pedro Town.

Police say officers were conducting a checkpoint on Sea Weed Street around 11:30pm on Friday when a man approached driving an orange golf cart.

Asked for his driver’s licence, he told officers he did not have one and had never held one.

He was informed of the offences committed, cautioned, and escorted along with the golf cart to the San Pedro Police Station.

Art Doyle Coye was formally arrested and charged early Saturday morning with using a motor vehicle whilst not being covered by third party risk insurance and driving a motor vehicle without a valid licence.

He was cautioned and chose to remain silent.

Bail was offered at $500 plus a surety of the same amount, which he met. He is to appear at the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, September 9.
