By Breaking Belize News Staff: Mother of five Nichole Gilda McDonald remains without bail nearly two months after she was accused of attacking a doctor and nurse at the Matron Roberts Polyclinic in Belize City.
McDonald, who has been on remand at the Belize Central Prison since June 8, appeared before a magistrate in Court #5 on Tuesday on charges of harm and aggravated assault arising from the alleged clinic attack.
As she was being taken back to prison following the hearing, McDonald told reporters, “I am in the hole,” indicating that she was being held in solitary confinement at the prison.
The case was adjourned until August 27 after the police prosecutor informed the court that McDonald’s case file had not yet been received and disclosure could therefore not be provided.
McDonald is accused of harming a doctor who is employed at the Matron Roberts Polyclinic, and assaulting a female nurse during an incident on the weekend of June 6.
She was denied bail when she was arraigned on June 8 because she had appeared in court just three days earlier on several unrelated charges and had allegedly breached a condition requiring her not to be arrested and charged with another offence while on bail.
Those earlier charges include two counts of aggravated assault, common assault, damage to property, insulting words and wounding. The allegations involve two police officers and two neighbors. McDonald pleaded not guilty to all six charges, which are also scheduled to return to court on August 27.
McDonald also has a pending cybercrime case involving former Commissioner of Police Chester Williams. She is accused of using a computer system to post comments that Williams alleges were defamatory and amounted to cyberbullying.
Although the charge was previously struck out, it was reinstated in 2026, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that the matter proceed on indictment. That case is due back in court on August 14.
McDonald is unrepresented in all three criminal matters.
She told reporters that her continued imprisonment has placed a strain on her family. McDonald has five children, ages 22, 20, 15, 12 and six, and said her two eldest children have been forced to care for their younger siblings while she remains on remand.
