Ministry of Rural Transformation launches Digital platforms to modernize trade licensing and rural development

By Zoila Palma:  The Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development and Local Government has launched two new digital platforms aimed at modernizing local governance and strengthening evidence-based rural development across Belize.

The Trade License Management and Administration System (TRALMA) and the Community Profile Information System (CPIS) were officially unveiled as part of the country’s ongoing transition toward more efficient, transparent and technology-driven public administration.

TRALMA is designed to digitize the trade licensing process across Belize’s municipal and rural authorities in accordance with the Trade License Act 19 of 2024. The system features separate portals for the public and government staff, allowing business owners to apply for trade licenses, track applications, make payments and download QR-coded, verifiable licenses online, reducing the reliance on manual and paper-based procedures.

Meanwhile, CPIS provides a centralized, publicly accessible platform containing demographic, economic and infrastructural information on rural communities. The data is collected using KOBO technology by rural community development officers and is intended to provide planners and policymakers with reliable baseline information to help guide targeted and equitable development initiatives.

The launch ceremony was attended by Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development and Local Government Oscar Requena, Chief Executive Officer Valentino Shal and key stakeholders, municipal representatives, rural officers and government partners.

 Guest speaker Giacomo Sanchez, President of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also participated in the event.

The Ministry said the introduction of TRALMA and CPIS represents a major step in bridging technology and public service while improving access to transparent and efficient governance for businesses and rural communities across Belize.
