By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology has officially clarified that More Tomorrow Primary School in the Cayo District is not being closed.
In a statement issued on September 2, 2026, the Ministry said it is currently engaging with parents and members of the school community to address challenges affecting the school, including staffing issues.
“These discussions are intended to identify appropriate solutions that will ensure the continued provision of education to students in More Tomorrow,” the Ministry said.
The statement follows an earlier media report claiming that the Ministry planned to close the school as early as Friday and transport students to another nearby institution. That report also said residents were preparing to hold a community meeting and launch a petition opposing the alleged closure, citing concerns about the additional distance children would have to travel.
Concerns reportedly arose amid longstanding difficulties in securing teachers for the school, which serves an area considered challenging for staffing. The school’s current situation has been further complicated by a staffing matter involving its only teacher.
The Ministry has now firmly rejected reports of an impending closure, saying it remains committed to working with parents, teachers and the wider community to find a solution in the best interest of students.
