By Breaking Belize News Staff: Justin Stephen Goff, 38, who was charged earlier this year after police allegedly found him with three live rounds of ammunition, is considering changing his not guilty plea after receiving a sentencing indication from the Magistrate’s Court.

Goff appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in Court #3, where he sought an indication of the sentence he could receive if he pleaded guilty to keeping ammunition without a gun licence.

The Magistrate informed Goff that a fine would not be considered and that he would instead face a custodial sentence. After taking into account aggravating and mitigating factors, as well as a one-third reduction for an early guilty plea, the court indicated that Goff could receive a sentence of approximately one year and four months in prison.

Goff was given until Friday, August 21, to decide whether to accept the sentencing indication and change his plea or proceed to trial.

During the hearing, Goff complained about his current prison conditions, telling the court that, as a repeat offender, he has been kept in “the hole” since returning to prison in April.

“That’s not a place I like to be,” Goff told the court.

Goff was first arraigned on April 7, 2026, and pleaded not guilty to keeping unlicensed ammunition. Police allege that on April 3 he was found with three live rounds — two S&B-brand rounds and one Aguila-brand round.

At his arraignment, Goff denied the allegation and claimed that the ammunition had been planted on him by the same police officer who later arrested and charged him.

Goff is expected back in court on Friday, when he must indicate whether he will accept the proposed sentence and plead guilty or continue with his case to trial.
