Global Faith Groups Mobilise Against Mining Injustice in Botswana
Botswana’s mining model has come under an unusually sharp challenge from an international alliance of churches.
According to a copy of a communique seen by Sunday Standard, the international faith groups which consulted local communities living alongside mines in Botswana also include theologians, community representatives, indigenous leaders and trade unions. They accused extractive industries of concentrating on economic gains while leaving mining communities with environmental damage, displacement and social disruption.
