Consumer confidence rebounds in July, rising 3.6 percent

By Zoila Palma:  Consumer confidence in Belize improved in July 2026, with the national Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) rising 3.6 percent from 41.1 in June to 42.6, according to the latest data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).

It marked the first monthly increase in consumer confidence since the start of the year.

The improvement was reflected across all three components of the index. Sentiment toward current economic conditions and household finances recorded the largest gain, with the ‘Present’ component increasing 7.1 percent from 37.6 to 40.2. The ‘Durable Goods’ component also rose 3.3 percent, from 34.4 to 35.5, indicating slightly less pessimism about purchasing major household items.

Consumers also became somewhat more optimistic about the future. The ‘Expectations’ component increased 1.2 percent, from 51.4 in June to 52.0 in July, reflecting improved views about future economic conditions and household financial prospects over the next 12 months.

Orange Walk District recorded the largest improvement in consumer confidence, with overall sentiment rising 12.6 percent from 36.0 to 40.6. Sentiment toward major household purchases surged 45.6 percent, while ‘Present’ sentiment increased 12.7 percent and ‘Expectations’ rose 3.0 percent, pointing to a broad-based improvement in consumer sentiment in the district.
