By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize is flying the flag at a major regional gathering for the apiculture industry, as the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries participates in the 32nd International Beekeeping Congress, held in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico, from July 1 to 3.

The Belizean delegation is being represented by Extension Officers Miguel Huertas, Federico Chi, and Jesse Madrid, along with three Belizean honey producers and one agriculture teacher from Centro Escolar Mexico Junior College, known as CEMJC. Their participation reflects the country’s commitment to strengthening the national beekeeping sector through knowledge exchange and regional collaboration.

Over the course of the three-day congress, participants will take part in technical presentations, workshops, and exhibitions covering a wide range of topics. These include bee health, queen rearing, the medicinal use of honey, honey production, value-added hive products, sustainable beekeeping practices, and the latest innovations in the apiculture industry.

For Belize, where beekeeping represents an important source of income and opportunity for many, exposure to this kind of expertise is invaluable. Learning from experts and peers across the region can help local beekeepers improve their methods, boost their yields, and develop new products.

The Ministry says it remains committed to building the capacity of Belize’s beekeepers by promoting continuous learning, international partnerships, and the adoption of best practices. The goal is to enhance the productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness of the country’s honey industry, ensuring it continues to grow and thrive for years to come.
