By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man accused of taking part in the robbery of a Honduran national with an object resembling a firearm was remanded to the Belize Central Prison after he was unable to post bail.
Derrick Daron Davis, 24, appeared this week before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was arraigned on a single charge of robbery.
Allegations are that on Friday, July 3, 2026, Davis and three other persons, while armed with an object resembling a firearm, robbed a 52-year-old Honduran national of Iguana Street, Belize City. The men are accused of stealing a Redmi 3 cellular phone valued at $400, along with $240 in cash, for a total value of $640.
According to police, the man reported that around 9:30 a.m. that day, he was at the corner of Krooman Road and the George Price Highway when he was approached by four male persons.
He told police that one of the men, who was dressed in a white shirt, pulled out an object resembling a firearm, pointed it at his face, and demanded that he hand over his personal belongings. Fearing for his life, Cervantes said he froze and complied.
Police say two of the men then searched his front and back pockets and took his cash and cellphone, while a fourth person allegedly remained across the street as a lookout.
Three of the suspects were reportedly wearing masks, but one was unmasked. Police later reviewed surveillance footage from the area and identified the unmasked person as Davis.
Davis was offered bail in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety of the same amount. However, he was unable to meet bail and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until August 31, 2026.
The other three suspects have not yet been identified.
