BEL announces Tentative load shedding for tonight!

By Zoila Palma: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has announced a tentative load shedding schedule for tonight as the country’s power grid faces possible supply constraints due to high demand in Mexico.

BEL said Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has informed the company that it may need to curtail power because of high demand on its system. As a result, load shedding may become necessary in several sections of Belize to maintain stability of the national grid.

The tentative schedule indicates that power interruptions may occur between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. in sections served by the San Pedro Feeder 2, Corozal Feeder 3, San Ignacio Feeder 1, Dangriga Feeder 1 and Ladyville Feeder 1 Zones 1 and 2.

In San Ignacio, affected areas include the downtown area, Kontiki, Swamyville, Mosquitoville, Boiton, Bradley’s Bank, Cahal Pech, Trapiche, Branch Mouth Road, New Area Santa Elena and portions of 2nd and 3rd Streets.

In San Pedro, areas include San Pedrito, the Airstrip area, San Pablo, San Marcos, DFC, Eiley Subdivision and surrounding communities.

BEL emphasized that the schedule is tentative and may change depending on energy demand and generation levels.

The company explained that load shedding involves deliberately disconnecting feeders or sections of feeders from the grid to match available generation and prevent a wider collapse of the electricity system.
