By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Magical History Tour is underway, opening in Punta Gorda Town this week.
ISCR-NICH has partnered with Dr. Assad Shoman, one of Belize’s foremost historians and diplomats, to spark nationwide dialogue on Belize’s journey to independence.
The objective is to encourage Belizeans to appreciate the struggle for independence and continue the work of decolonization.
On August 26, Shoman was joined by Dr. Filiberto Penados at Julian Cho Technical High School, where they engaged students in thinking critically about the country’s history.
That evening drew a strong turnout at the Welcome Center and House of Culture in Peini, with students, community leaders and residents gathering despite a power outage in the area.

The initiative is made possible through the National Celebrations Commission, the National Institute of Culture and History, and partners including the University of Belize and the Belize National Library Service and Information System.
