By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The People’s United Party’s Belize City municipal convention recorded 787 votes cast on Sunday.
According to official figures provided by a party official, 787 delegates and 50 alternates were eligible to vote.
Of the 787 votes cast, seven came from alternates. One vote was spoilt.
The last alternate delegate voted around 4:05pm, with counting beginning thereafter.
The convention was held at the ITVET compound on Freetown Road to determine the party’s mayoral candidate and ten councillor candidates for Belize City.
Party Chairman Henry Charles Usher had said ahead of the convention that hundreds of delegates were expected, describing the Belize City municipal convention as larger than the UDP’s national convention.
The PUP is aiming to have all nine municipal slates in place by September 29, the party’s birthday, before turning full attention to the campaign for the March 2027 municipal elections.
