By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police have detained a 68-year-old man following a theft report involving a soursop and a bunch of plantains in Steadfast Village.
According to the report, a 47-year-old resident told police that around 11:30pm on August 28, he heard his dog barking and looked through a window.
He said he saw a man he has known for decades inside his yard pulling down a large soursop from a tree before leaving the property.
The complainant said the yard and nearby street were well lit, allowing him to identify the man.
Days later, on September 3, he said his daughter alerted him that the same man was again near the property.
When he went outside, he allegedly saw the man leaving with a bunch of plantains.
The complainant confronted him and asked for the plantains to be returned. He said the man claimed he had received permission from the complainant’s daughter, but the complainant maintained that no permission had been given to take fruit from the property.
The soursop was valued at $50 and the plantains at $10, for a total alleged loss of $60.
Court action was requested.
The 68-year-old man was detained at the Pomona Police Station on Friday and later taken to the Dangriga Police Station pending charges.
